Why Children in Collier County Need your Support
The ExEL Foundation, Inc. (ExEL in Early Learning) was founded in 2012 and has an office in Collier County. It focuses on communities where economically disadvantaged and underserved children living at or below the poverty level by providing tuition assistances to children from families in need so they can attend a quality Early Learning Center. The ExEL Foundation recognizes the importance of high-quality early learning opportunities for every child in our community where there is an estimated 6,000 two to five year old children in Collier County who live at or below the poverty level. It is also estimated that at least 3,000 children in Collier County do not receive early learning education or intervention due to financial inaccessibility. Simple math shows a staggering reality: $8,000 annual tuition x 3,000 disadvantaged and underserved children = $24,000,000 needed annually. ExEL will fund up to 50% of the tuition costs, based on need.
The $8,000 tuition assistance for a child often is more than 50% of the family’s monthly household income. Lack of early learning opportunities greatly impacts a child’s future success and can create lingering academic and social barriers once they begin elementary school. ExEL understands the importance and benefits of early learning education as the basis for future success for the individual in school, as well as for our community. In an effort to build a stronger community, ExEL is opening doors for these children so they can be empowered with the values, social skills, and knowledge required for success in Kindergarten and life.
